La mission di Recce'd per i prossimi anni (parte 2)
Ieri abbiamo pubblicato un commento ad alcune frasi di Bill Gross: oggi per chiarire ulteriormente aggiungiamo un commento ad un grafico che ci mostra alcuni dati del Fondo Monetario Internazionale. Lo FMI ha elaborato da tempo un "herding indicator" che misura quanto è grande l'effetto "gregge" sui mercati. L'effetto gregge è la misura in cui gli operatori, ed in particolare gli operatori istituzionali, si muovono alllo stesso tempo e nella stessa direzione. Gli ultimi anni sono stati caratterizzati da un clamoroso aumento di questo "effetto gregge", aumento che è spiegato dalla decisione delle Banche Centrali di intervenire direttamente sui mercati finanziari ed "indirizzarli" per farne uno stumento di politica monetaria. E' di questo parere anche Citigroup.
As for the inability of investors to forge their own path, that isn’t their fault, really. It’s all down to that central-bank global money spigot, says Citigroup. Analysts there have taken a long look at what’s going on with liquidity in the markets, specially that “here-today-gone-tomorrow” mentality that’s haunting lots of institutional investors.
It’s all about “herding,” says Citi. Central-bank intervention and asset purchases have been forcing investors into positions they would otherwise not hold. The more liquidity officials toss at markets, the more they upset the natural diversity of markets
“For the past few years, valuations in more markets seems to have stopped following traditional relationships and instead followed global QE. Likewise in meetings with investors, we have been struck by how little time anyone spends discussing fundamentals these days, and how much revolves around central banks,” says Citi’s global head of credit strategy Matt King.
Noi di Recce'd abbiamo deciso, fin dalla crisi del 2007-2009, di combatatre contro questo effetto grege: che rappresenta un rischio clamoroso per i portafogli degli investitori finali, che quando il "gregge" si muove non possono fare altro che essere trascinati. O travolti. L'effetto grege, per noi di Recce'd, è il nemico da battere, che si può battere grazie a strategie di tipo non tradizionale, come abbiamo scritto nel Post di ieri.
